Conference to tackle critical issues
27 September, 2011
NCEA workload, Class size, educative mentoring, a non-confrontational approach to bargaining and looking at an alternative economic model are just some of the critical issues teachers will be tackling at PPTA’s 2011 annual conference.
From October 18 to 20 secondary teachers will be discussing and voting on conference papers that will shape PPTA policy for the coming year.
PPTA president Robin Duff invites media representatives to examine the papers and attend the conference, which will be held at the Brentwood Hotel in Kilbirnie, Wellington.
Duff said the conference would offer media the chance to gain critical insight into the issues affecting teachers in the workplace, and therefore students in schools.
“Decisions at conference are made by secondary teachers, for secondary teachers – it’s a way to learn what is happening out there in schools and what our members are thinking,” he said.
Below is a brief summary of the papers that will be discussed. The full conference papers can be found at http://www.pptaorg.nz/index.php/annual-conference
