NZPF Congratulates New Minister of Education
The President-elect of the New Zealand Principals’ Federation, Paul Drummond, today extended his congratulations to the Hon Hekia Parata, the newly appointed Minister of Education.
‘I congratulate Hekia on her appointment to the position of Minister of Education in the new cabinet of our new parliament,’ said Drummond today. ‘I look forward to meeting her and establishing a regular dialogue on education issues relating to our compulsory sector,’ he said.
‘I want to share ideas about how we can retain and strengthen all that is good about our public education system which, is ranked amongst the best in the OECD world,’ he said.
Drummond agrees that although our education system is very successful, there is an unacceptable number of children who are not reaching their potential and too many of those children are Maori and Pasifika. He wants to explore ways to lift the attainment of Maori and Pasifika children.
‘NZPF has been forging closer links with Te Akatea, the Maori Principals’ Association and our Pasifika colleagues with a view to seeking a lead from them in how we might together help these children achieve more success,’ he revealed.
Principals of New Zealand are professionals who have dedicated their lives and their careers to making a positive difference for the children of New Zealand.
‘With the Minister’s support we will together produce citizens of the future who in turn will contribute to make Aotearoa a leader amongst our Pacific Rim neighbours and a positive influence on the rest of the world.
