MANUKAU INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES MAJOR NEW DEVELOPMENT

Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is pleased to announce the development of a tertiary campus in the heart of the Manukau CBD.

The purpose built campus will crown the newly built Manukau Rail Station, making the campus and its educational offerings easily accessible to the local community and changing the face of tertiary education provision for the region.

The campus has been several years in the planning and MIT Chief Executive Dr. Peter Brothers says it will play a crucial part in meeting the future needs of students.

“As one of New Zealand’s leading tertiary providers, MIT prides itself on continual improvement,” explains Dr. Brothers. “The development of the Manukau Tertiary Campus is an ideal example of how MIT will provide facilities for the future and create a world-class learning environment for our local community.”

By providing the region with well-qualified graduates, the new MIT facilities will support economic growth in the Manukau region as well as driving substantial ongoing economic value across the greater Auckland region

“In order to continue to meet the needs of our community, and indeed the wider economic needs of the region itself, MIT must look to the future to provide relevant and accessible learning for our community,” Dr. Brothers explains. “The new campus will be a catalyst for growth of the city,” says Dr. Brothers. “It allows us to plan for the future and to expand our offerings to potential learners in a much more accessible way.”

MIT has partnered with Auckland Council and Auckland Transport to develop the tertiary campus and integrated transport exchange at the Hayman Park site.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown says the location of the campus will ensure an on-going and mutually beneficial connection between MIT and the people of Manukau.

“Education is one of the key economic drivers which will see Auckland become one of the world’s most liveable cities. It’s already a major regional employer, providing investment and export opportunities,” says Len Brown. “The Hayman Park site is a superb example of an integrated, transformational project aligning MIT with the local community, business and industry, Auckland Council and Auckland Transport.”

There are three planned phases for the site. The initial phase of the project will see MIT’s Faculty of Business, along with several other programmes, move into the site by mid-2013.

Designs for the Tertiary Campus are well advanced and construction on the campus is now underway.
