Whitireia Foundation 2012 Scholarship Recipients Announced

41 students have been awarded Whitireia Foundation scholarships, for study at Whitireia in 2012.

The scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $3000 were awarded at a recent ceremony attended by over 130 guests, including friends and family, sponsors, council members and staff. The scholarships were awarded to students studying at Whitireia in 2012 and are for use towards their study fees.

Around $60,000 in total was awarded in scholarships; received from 13 sponsors, by the Foundation this year.

Deirdre Dale, Whitireia Foundation Chair, addressed the recipients at the ceremony and presented the scholarships with the sponsors, while Keri-Mei Zagrobelna, a 2012 scholarship recipient, spoke on behalf of the students.

The aim of the Whitireia Foundation is to assist students to realise their potential as well as promote, support and enhance the goals and activities through research projects, educational innovation and improving campus facilities.

It is run by a small group of energetic supporters of Whitireia who organise all the sponsorship. The Foundation members currently are; Deirdre Dale, Dennis Sharman, Chris Kirk-Burnand, Margaret Faulkner as well as highly active community leaders such as Tim Sheppard and Ross Garner. This group has a significant amount of experience in Whitireia and the economic development in the Porirua region.

The Foundation is a registered charitable trust and is independent of the Polytechnic. It receives no Government funding and has been running since June 2000.
