Collections from final year UCOL Bachelor of Fashion studentswill be on show at the Edith Gallery from next week.

The Mini Collection Exhibition, titled Style Sandwich, opens at the Edith Gallery off Drews Avenue on Monday at 5 p.m.

Fifteen students have contributed to the annual exhibition, showing a range of styles and interpretations. Programme Leader Amanda Rayner says they had free range in terms of the inspirations for their designs.

“For example, one student, Luca Bartlett, has called her collection Vintage Circus, inspired by the tents, ringmasters and trapeze artists of vintage circus. Another, Sarah Christiansen, has called hers Strawberry Fields Forever, inspired by the song of the same name, the hippie movement and children's wear during that time.

“Kendra Stewart’s collection name is Edge of Night, inspired by mythology - three goddesses of the horoscope Virgo (pictured).”

Amanda says all of the students have used the creativity, knowledge and skills that have been polished during their years of study on the Bachelor programme. “We expect they will all have a great future in the fashion industry.”

Amanda adds that recently students have been inspired by the success of UCOL Fashion graduates, including 20 year old Kelsey Thompson whose label Kelsey Genna was described by media as “the hot new label” when she made her debut at Wellington Fashion Week.

UCOL’s Bachelor of Fashion is a three year programme that explores the fashion design process from concept to garment completion. Subjects include design, pattern making, construction, drawing, visual communication and business studies.
