Graduation Week Gets Underway for Manukau Institute of Technology Students
Manukau
Institute of Technology Graduation Week celebrations began
with excitement and pride last night as students took to the
stage at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre to receive
their awards.
Almost 200 students took part in the
combined Faculty of Nursing and Health Studies and Faculty
of Business award ceremony for level 2-4 students.
Chief
Executive, Dr. Peter Brothers, said the award ceremonies are
an important part of the MIT’s Graduation Week – which
continues to grow each year.
“It’s a celebration of
achievement and success,” Dr. Brothers explains. “It
represents the hundreds of hours of hard work and toil it
takes for our students to get here. It’s important to
acknowledge that for many of our students, tertiary
education can mean significant sacrifice as many of our
students juggle family and work as well as their
studies.”
Over twelve hundred certificates will be
presented at the award ceremonies this week.
The award
ceremonies were introduced to MIT last year and have proven
to be popular with students.
The four nights of awards
are a way for the Institute to acknowledge all its students
in the lead up to the two main Graduation ceremonies, to be
held this Saturday 26 May.
At the back-to-back ceremonies, 917 graduands will receive their degree or diploma.
The newly capped graduates will be honoured at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre in two separate ceremonies where the Hon. Hekia Parata, Minister of Education and the Hon. Steven Joyce, Minister of Tertiary Education, will be the official guest speakers.
