NZQA reviews and International Student qualification changes from Nursing Council of NZ
Waiariki Institute of Technology is fully committed to ensuring its students have a high quality and enjoyable learning experience while they are in New Zealand.
Waiariki’s acting chief executive Keith Ikin said Waiariki has consistently been regarded in providing excellent support to its international students and Waiariki values that reputation.
“As part of that support we are currently working with NZQA and fully support the review of the information and processes around international student enrolment,” Mr Ikin said.
Waiariki has regularly been quality assured around its programmes and is confident in its curriculum and processes.
The review is being carried out as a result of publicity and NZQA and Minister of Tertiary Education and Minister of Immigration concern regarding some overseas qualified nurses gaining a Bachelor of Nursing degree but then being unable to obtain registration from the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
“We are also engaged with Nursing Council and highlighted to them our concerns about recent changes and further proposed changes to criteria for entry by international students into our Nursing programmes,” Mr Ikin said.
Waiariki is strongly advocating that any changes
must not apply to students currently enrolled and would
welcome the opportunity for Nursing Council to discuss its
proposal directly with students.
