Training the Dragons at UCOL

Training the Dragons at UCOL

UCOL will host the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme oral presentation finals at the Atrium on Thursday night.

Eight teams representing five Secondary Schools will vie for the judges’ attention in a competition based on the Dragons’ Den format.

Judges, Lyn McCurdy from Third Bearing Ltd, Manawatu Standard Editor Michael Cummings and UCOL’s CFO Darryl Purdy, have $500 cash each to award to the teams with the business concepts that impress them the most.

Teams from Palmerston North Boys’ High School, Palmerston North Girls’ High School, Whanganui Collegiate, Nga Tawa and Waiopehu College have been working on product development, business plans and presentations since February.

The business ideas range from duvet covers to Maori/English cookbooks. Each team has five minutes to pitch their idea to the judges at Thursday night’s event.

During its 31 year history, more than 50,000 Secondary Students have taken part in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme nationally.

The event is organised by Vision Manawatu and is sponsored by ANZ. It starts at 5.30pm in the UCOL Atrium, Princess Street.
