Classroom Teachers get Technology-savvy in Central Otago
Workshops to help Central Otago teachers successfully integrate ICT into teaching and learning are being brought to the province.
Southern educational publisher, Essential Resources is hosting the professional development seminars/workshops in conjunction with CORE Education, a not-for-profit educational research and development organisation well known for national teacher conferences such as ULearn and regular teacher professional development in the main centres.
Two workshops are scheduled for 22 June in Cromwell: How can Google Apps support teaching and learning? and Powerful engagement through the use of ePortfolios. They are being presented by Google Certified Teacher and CORE facilitator, Tania Coutts who delivers professional development to teachers throughout Northland and northern areas of Auckland.
“We’re so thrilled to be able to offer such a high-calibre presenter,” said Essential Resources Commissioning Editor, Jo Issa. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to find out how different platforms can be used to record students’ learning and share it with parents and the wider global community. The workshops are also a great collaborative opportunity for local teachers.”
The Google Apps workshop runs from 9.00am until noon. It will provide an overview of Google apps in education, their benefits as tools for learning and teaching, guidance on introducing them into a school plus a hands-on exploration of them.
The ePortfolio seminar and workshop will follow from 12.30pm to 3.15pm. The seminar gives an overview that includes showing the way student voice is being used for learning and assessment; giving strategies for recording students learning over time and providing the opportunity to develop an ePortfolio. The workshop is a hands-on master class that goes into more depth.
Last term Essential Resources hosted a very successful Social Media workshop for principals in Cromwell, which formed the impetus for these latest teacher-workshops. “The positive feedback motivated us to keep providing these types of opportunities for Central Otago teachers," said Ms Issa.
