STEP UP and achieve
STEP UP and achieve
Unitec has been supporting senior secondary students since 1988 through the Unitec in Schools STEP UP programme. For 25 years students have had access to intensive revision and exam preparation in the lead up to their final exams.
STEP UP courses are available to senior secondary students to help them get the results they want. The courses aim to support the work of their teachers and are designed to provide students with classes that will enhance their learning in preparation for external exams.
Says Barbie Jones, STEP UP Coordinator, "STEP UP prides itself on a proven track record of offering quality teaching that not only aims to support the work of teachers in secondary schools by enhancing the success of their students, but also introduces students to the tertiary learning environment here at Unitec."
Revision classes are available for students who are studying NCEA level 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Cambridge International Examinations IGCSE - A level. Examination Preparation classes are for students studying towards NCEA level 1-3. Students are taught by experienced secondary teachers expert in their curriculum area, provided with intensive subject content revision, shown the skills necessary to best use knowledge and approach exam papers in a more productive and confident manner, including how to manage the time given to complete exams.
Students using the STEP UP programme report that they feel much more confident about their work and found the teachers went over things that they hadn't thought about for their exams.
STEP UP responds to changes in the curriculum and assessment systems to ensure that classes offered are up-to-date and relevant to the students needs.
Enrolments for the October holiday revision classes start at the beginning of term 3, Monday 16 July. Examination preparation enrolments commence mid-August.
