Foundation for Youth Development teams us with Graham Henry

Foundation for Youth Development Waitakere (FYD) teamed up with the Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and West Auckland Business Association to present breakfast with Sir Graham Henry and raised over $3000 for children and youth in the Waitakere region. Simon Wickham, CEO of The Trusts and Deputy Chairman of the New Zealand Olympic Committee spoke to Sir Graham Henry in an interview style event.

Graham Henry is a previous Deputy Headmaster and Headmaster at Kelston Boys’ High School during the 1980’s and 1990’s and has been involved in the Auckland rugby community for nearly forty years. When asked if he had any advice for young people about reaching their goals, Graham replied:

• Don’t give up
• Everyone makes mistakes, so don’t worry about making mistakes or failing, you learn from these mistakes
• Keep going
• Get up and carry on
• Get out there and give it a go
• Give it your best shot
Co-founder of FYD Graeme Dingle says ‘’Our programmes have been running in the Waitakere region since 2004. There is a tremendous base of support for the FYD programmes within the West Auckland community. It was such an honour to have Sir Graham come back to support the community where he launched his rugby coaching career’’.

FYD currently works with around 650 young people in West Auckland. This is through both the Stars programme, at Kelston Girls and Rutherford College, and Project K programme at Kelston Boys and Waitakere College. All profits from the breakfast go towards helping fund young people in our FYD programmes.
