Applications for Whitireia Foundation Scholarships now open

Applications for Whitireia Foundation Scholarships are now open for 2013.

The Whitireia Foundation is pleased to offer a number of scholarships to students who are planning to study at any one of the Whitireia campuses next year. These scholarships provide financial assistance towards tuition fees.

The Foundation has been successful in securing a range of sponsors for 2013. This year Kāpiti Coast District Council has come on board and is offering a $2,500 sponsorship; this sponsorship will be awarded to a Kāpiti student. The Council is very supportive of Whitireia and increasing education opportunities for the district’s young people said Jenny Rowan, Mayor Kāpiti Coast District Council. “This scholarship will go a long way in assisting a student who might otherwise not be able to study at Whitireia” she said.

Around $70,000 is awarded in scholarships each year said Foundation Chair, Tim Sheppard. “We are extremely grateful and acknowledge the support of all our sponsors, many who have supported Whitireia and the Foundation for a number of years”. This year the Foundation awarded 41 scholarships to students, ranging from $500 up to $3000.

The Foundation selection committee consider three main criteria when looking at applicants and selecting recipients. These include demonstration of a genuine desire and ability to succeed in the chosen area of study, financial circumstances and personal achievement. The scholarships will be presented to successful recipients at an awards ceremony held in late March 2013.

Closing date for scholarship applications is 16 October 2012. For more information or an application form call 0800 944 847 or visit www.whitireia.ac.nz.

The Whitireia Foundation is a registered charitable trust that aims to promote knowledge, interest and support for the educational purposes and activities of Whitireia students.
