Students Impressed With New Health Building
Week two into the new academic year has seen new and returning students impressed with the new health building at the Whitireia Porirua campus.
Over 1000 health students will be studying in the building this year. There is a great sense of pride amongst students, towards their new education training facility.
Jacob Carlson, a second year Bachelor of Health Science student is impressed with the building and is enjoying the open spaces it provides. “It’s such a change from where were last year in a prefabricated building” he said.
The very modern building that takes up 3817 square metres is full of state-of-the-art features. Included is laboratories, world class simulation suites, inter-room sliding doors allowing for flexible teaching, open work spaces for staff, learning streets which are the focal point and central hub of student life, a place of interaction and self-learning with very bright and modern furniture. The learning streets are a great meeting point said Bachelor of Nursing, year three student Charlie Boyadjien. “Having one building that houses all health students is amazing, it makes you realise how many people are studying health programmes at Whitireia” she said.
For year one Bachelor of Nursing Pacific student Cherie-Mae Howard, she thinks she has timed her entry into nursing training pretty well by being able to start it, in the new building.
This state-of-the-art facility is setting new standards for health education training in New Zealand.
The building will be officially
opened on the 20 March 2013 by the Minister of Health and
Minister for State Owned Enterprises Hon Tony
Ryall.
