Simpson Grierson Awards Employment Law Prize
Simpson Grierson Awards Employment Law
Prize
Suzanne
Innes-Kent is the winner of the Simpson Grierson Employment
Law Prize for 2012.
The
award recognises the student with the best overall mark in
the University of Auckland's employment law class. Suzanne
is currently completing her Honours degree.
Suzanne developed a passion for employment law through previous jobs working on staff development and workplace mediation. This led her to Law School. She noted: "People spend most of their waking hours in employment (if they are lucky), so it is a crucial part of individual lives, and an interesting balance of needs. Businesses have to thrive, and people within them aim to thrive, so there is a kind of covenant going on. This is reflected in our employment law which is trying to mirror that balance."
Associate Professor
Bill Hodge of the University of Auckland commented that
"Suzanne demonstrated her ability consistently throughout
the year and has a wonderful understanding of the evolving
issues associated with employment law in New Zealand".
Suzanne was presented with a cheque for $1,500 at a function at the firm's Auckland office today. Phillipa Muir who heads Simpson Grierson's Employment Law group and handed over the cheque stated: "We are delighted to be able to support the future career of talented people such as Suzanne. The University of Auckland's Faculty of Law continues to produce first class students who contribute greatly to employment law."
Simpson Grierson has been sponsoring the University of Auckland's Employment Law Prize for nine years.
