Manukau Institute of Technology celebrates over 4500 graduates

Thousands of Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) graduands will celebrate with friends and family at annual graduation week celebrations this week.

MIT will confer 508 degrees, 563 diplomas and 3,464 certificates and other awards.

Manukau Institute of Technology Chief Executive Dr. Peter Brothers says, “Close to 90% of the graduates who successfully completed their qualifications in 2012 are now in employment or further study.”

“Our vocational education and training programmes equip our students with skills employers want, and that’s why our students get jobs,” he says.

MIT will be holding two main graduation ceremonies at the Vodafone Events Centre on Saturday May 25 for graduands receiving diplomas and degrees from MIT’s Faculties of Business and Information Technology; Education and Social Services; Engineering and Trades; Creative Arts; and Nursing and Health Sciences.

The first ceremony will be held at 11am, with guest speaker Auckland Mayor, Len Brown.

The second ceremony will commence at 4pm, with guest speaker MP for Maungakiekie, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga. MIT’s Chair of Council, Kaye Turner, will confer the degrees and diplomas.

Certificate Award ceremonies will be held at the at the Vodafone Events Centre from the Faculties of Business and Information Technology and Engineering and Trades on Tuesday May 21 at 7pm; and from the Faculty of Education and Social Services at 7pm on Wednesday May 22.

A celebratory church service will be held for Pasifika graduates on Sunday May 26 at 2pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Papatoetoe. There are 1479 Pasifika graduates.

A Maori graduation celebration for Maori graduates will be held on Wednesday May 29 at 6pm at Nga Kete Wananga Marae at MIT’s Otara Campus. There are 771 Maori graduates.
