12 finalists
selected for Sir Paul Callaghan Awards For Young Science
Orators – see attached list
After an intensive
assessment process lasting two days 12 secondary school and
university undergraduate students have been selected to
participate in the finals of the 2013 Eureka! Sir Paul
Callaghan Awards for Young Science Orators.
“Finalists come from many parts of New Zealand and have presented a remarkable range of propositions for the Judges to consider when the finals are held in Wellington on 12 July at the Massey University Museum Theatrette,” said Eureka! Convenor, Francis Wevers.
“Our objective, as the Rotary Club of Wellington, has been to provide an opportunity for our passionate and articulate New Zealand students to persuade our panel of eminent judges that their idea will deliver real economic, social, environmental value for New Zealand.
“The two-stage selection process was very robust and every entrant was given a very fair and careful evaluation. It was no easy task selecting the final twelve from the quality entries and several students came very close for the last place.
“As a country we can be proud that our education system continues to produce students who are outstanding and creative thinkers.
“Next year, to further increase opportunities for students to participate, we will be organising preliminary events in the main centres outside Wellington. These events will be organised by groups led by their local Rotary clubs in a demonstration of the widespread range of activity Rotary provides for young people.”
The Eureka Symposium is a free event – register at www.eureka.org.nz to secure a seat
