Blue Light reach extended thanks to AA Insurance
Auckland – 4 November 2013 – More and more provincial towns around New Zealand are now able to take part in Blue Light’s youth programmes, thanks to ongoing AA Insurance sponsorship.
The nationwide youth charity, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month, has opened 14 new branches nationwide – bringing the total number to 74 – since AA Insurance became its principal sponsor in 2010. The charity now works with more than 200,000 young people throughout New Zealand.
Blue Light’s youth programmes aim to reduce youth offending numbers and foster better relations between the police, young people, their parents and the community. This is an initiative that makes sense for an insurance company like AA Insurance to support, to create better outcomes for youth as well as communities.
Greymouth, Gore, Paeroa, Wanganui, Whangamata, Taumaranui, Chatham Islands and Kawakawa districts now have a local Blue Light branch offering a wide range of events and activities developed to promote safer communities.
Blue Light’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Brendon Crompton, said “the strong growth couldn’t have been achieved without the help of AA Insurance.
“As well as establishing more branches throughout the country, there has also been an increase in the number of programmes each branch runs. Additionally, we’ve introduced a successful national programme known as Blue Light Life Skills, which is a residential initiative run in partnership with the New Zealand Defence Force.”
The AA Insurance sponsorship has also helped bring youth from around the country to the camps run in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
AA Insurance CEO, Chris Curtin, said the company chose to support Blue Light based on its strong community focus.
“Blue Light is an outstanding organisation that encourages safe and healthy socialisation for young people. We’re delighted to work with them to help young people get started on the right track and to become positive individuals who make sensible life decisions.”
Successful Blue Light programmes include: Rainbows End Fun Days, Life Skills Camps, Anti Drink Drive Expo, The PCT Fear Factor, as well as Anti Drink Drive Short Film Competition. In addition, local branches run holiday programmes, after school care, free teenage fitness classes, camps for young victims of sexual assault, youth justice programs, truancy and anti-graffiti programmes.
