New scholarships for UCOL Degree students

New scholarships for UCOL Degree students

Students starting out in UCOL Degree programmes this year are now able to apply for financial assistance through new scholarship opportunities.

UCOL Scholarships for You 2015 are worth $5,000 each and are for students enrolled full-time in their first year of eligible UCOL Degree programmes.

The announcement of the new scholarships comes after the release of the Government’s Occupation Outlook 2015 report last week, which identified skills shortages and high-growth industries.

UCOL Chief Executive Leeza Boyce says the scholarships provide students with financial support to commence study in high demand areas such as web design, IT, business, and design.

“UCOL is well-placed to prepare students for future employment opportunities with in-demand skills and applied, industry based qualifications in areas with high job prospects.

“Degrees are often required or preferred in these areas, and we want to help reduce the financial barrier to tertiary study at degree level.”

New Zealand citizens and permanent residents are eligible. The scholarships provide financial assistance for three years of study and are available for UCOL Degree programmes include the Bachelor of Applied Business Management, Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, Bachelor of Visual Imaging, Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design, and Bachelor of Design and Arts.

Applications are open now, closing 16 March 2015. Applicants must be students new to UCOL and they will be required to attend an interview with a focus on what the scholarship will mean to them and how the financial assistance will support their studies.

Students can obtain application forms from ucol.ac.nz. More information about the scholarships is available online.
