World Class Education Leaders Visit Pakuranga College

Pakuranga College will be playing host to education leaders from the UK, Australia, South Africa and the United States today.

New Zealand is hosting the 12th Global Education Leaders’ Partnership (GELP) event for education system leaders from 22-24 November 2015 in Auckland, followed by visits to sites of education excellence that cover the full range of education provision in the NZ education system. Schools were invited to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Education demonstrating how they epitomise exemplary practice using the new ERO best practice indicators and only a few were selected to host the visitors.

The Global Education Leaders’ Partnership sets out to transform education, effectively and sustainably, at local, national and global levels. It envisages education systems that equip every learner with the skills, expertise and knowledge to survive and thrive in the 21st century.

The partnership is a community of thought leaders and consultants from world-class organisations, collaborating in a global community with teams of key system education leaders who are seriously committed both to transforming education in practice and to developing the personal skills they need to lead the changes required.

At the heart of GELP’s vision is the fostering of new pedagogies, curricula and assessment methods that enable every student to develop higher order capabilities. For this to be realised, appropriate technology, leadership, professional development, policies and governance also have to be in place.

Principal Michael Williams who is himself a member of the Ministry of Education Professional Learning & Development Advisory Group said:

“This is a rare opportunity to exchange ideas from across the world about how to increase student engagement and achievement through effective teaching and learning.”
