Unitec's 'Think. Do Experiment'
UNITEC’S ‘THINK. DO EXPERIMENT’ CLEVERLY HIGHLIGHTS INNOVATIVE TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
26 November 2015 - Unitec continues to challenge traditional tertiary education norms. On Friday 27 November, Unitec will launch at Auckland’s Britomart an innovative ‘Think. Do Experiment,’ an immersive, virtual reality demonstration of learning.
Steve Haddock, Unitec’s Executive Director Business Development and Marketing, is confident this fun, interactive and unique experience will appeal to those considering tertiary education in 2016.
“The Unitec ‘Think. Do Experiment’ is the next stage of our recent campaign to highlight the Unitec difference of immersive teaching and learning philosophies.”
Unitec fosters community and industry engagement that provides true purpose and real prospects for students.
“Innovative collaborations such as IBM and Concentrix opening their only New Zealand based delivery centres on campus has some immediate benefits for our students. Aside from the new jobs created, there are annual scholarship programmes and jointly developed guest lectures, mentoring, internship and graduate hire programmes,” says Haddock.
Michael Crutchley, Manager – Auckland Cost Management at Beca, sees real value in the Unitec work-integrated learning philosophy.
“We have had great success with the many Unitec Quantity Surveying graduates we have employed at Beca. The way the degree is structured allows students to work part-time with us while completing their studies. Gaining real world experience whilst studying, as well as the emphasis Unitec place on practical and industry knowledge, affords Unitec students the advantage of hitting the ground running by the time they graduate.”
NZ Strong is a company that unquestionably supports the Unitec way of learning, so much so they predominantly only recruit Unitec students.
“We are the most advanced construction company when employing and developing our people. We look to employ young people by wrapping youth and energy with experienced senior staff. This provides better opportunity for younger staff to reach their full potential quicker than others employed elsewhere. The projects we complete are challenging commercial projects and cover the entire spectrum of skill bases. We recruit from Unitec predominantly and find that the level of education provided to Unitec students is far higher and aligned to the skilled staff we are looking for,” says Managing Director, Chris Hunter.
The Unitec ‘Think Do’ Experiment will be held Fri 27 - Sun 29 Nov 2015 at Takutai Square in Britomart, Auckland
Fri 27 Nov - 9am-8pm
Sat 28 Nov - 10am-8pm
Sun 29 Nov - 10am-6pm
“If you are contemplating tertiary education in 2016 you can't miss this experience,” says Haddock.
