Universities NZ Tribute to Dr Ranginui Walker
The
Vice-Chancellors and the Māori Pro Vice Chancellors of New
Zealand's eight universities collectively express our
sincere sympathy at the passing and loss of Dr. Ranginui
Walker. Our condolences to his immediate family, to Ngāti
Whakatōhea and to Mātaatua waka. This is a loss to the
whole of the nation, and to the academic world. We are saddened by his death, but comforted by

Ranginui
has been a pou turangi, a bastion for the advancement of
Māori scholarship, and the contribution of Māori
indigenous knowledge to the nation’s intellectual
treasury.
