What is most important? To be able to use IT or to educate?
What is most important? To be able to use IT or to educate a child??
According to Minister Joyce, parents and students should be aiming to not be teachers but to become engineers and IT experts.

Pat
Newman, President of Te Tai Tokerau Principals Association
says, he is saddened that any Minister of the Crown would
basically advocate for aspiring graduates to choose their
futures, based purely upon a financial ranking.
He says, “Teaching to me is an honourable profession and I still believe that most people believe that the positive impact of a teacher on individual children and society as a whole, is far greater than a person fiddling with electronics!
At the end of the day, Mr Joyce, by releasing such a statement points to how little importance he places on the role of a teacher. If teachers are paid so poorly so as to make a Crown Minister feel the need to recommend to aspiring graduates to stay away from becoming one, then surely it is the hands of Mr Joyce to do something about the situation!
In other countries such as Finland, teachers and the profession are held in high esteem by their Ministers, and paid at a level that reflects that, and encourages the best to join the profession.
Mr Joyce has done no good to anyone, by such demeaning comments…... “
