Schools "well prepared" for board of trustees nominations

Nominations open next week (by 6 May) for New Zealand’s biggest democratic event, the School Trustee Elections. More than 13,000 people are needed to fill positions on boards of trustees at 2,500 schools throughout the country.

The nomination period runs until the 20 May and the common election date (the default date that most schools will use) is 3rd June.

School Trustee Election Project Manager Janet Kelly says schools are well-prepared for the elections and she encouraged people to get their nominations in early.

"Many of the current trustees are looking to stand again, which means there is a strong starting point for new trustees to come on board.

"It’s great to hear from people who are considering standing for the first time. It’s exciting to hear when people are passionate about their local school and want to see it succeed. We look forward to many of them standing during nominations."

For those considering trusteeship for the first time, Janet Kelly suggests they contact their local school for more information. She also encouraged people to nominate others they think would make good trustees.
