Nominations for the 2016 School Trustee
Elections have closed, and schools will now be getting ready
for a voting election if they have received more nominations
than there are available positions on the board.
People in the community have put themselves forward to sit on the school board, and voters are now encouraged to use their vote to ensure a diverse mix of skills and experiences are elected to sit on the board.
Voting closes at Noon, 3 June for schools using the common election date.
The theme of this year’s election, Make a difference, Ki te whakapiki, encourages everyone in the community to be involved. This is particularly relevant for everyone that can vote and make sure they have their say in who governs the school.
"We need parents, caregivers and guardians to all get involved and take an active part in the voting process," says School Trustee Election Project Manager Janet Kelly.
The role of trustees is a significant one with responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the school, monitoring progress and reporting on the performance of the school to the parent community.
"Our boards need people who have the skills to ask the right questions and make the necessary decisions to influence and support educational opportunities for each and every student in our schools."
