Kiwi kids’ chance to have their say

Kiwi kids’ chance to have their say

10-12 year olds invited to participate in global children’s survey

This year’s topic: School & education

ChildFund is inviting Kiwi kids to have their say in the world’s largest poll of children’s opinions.

Each year ChildFund’s Small Voices, Big Dreams survey gives thousands of children from Afghanistan to Zambia the opportunity to share their views on a range of important issues.

This year’s survey is now open. Any child in New Zealand aged 10 to 12 years old is invited to take part. The six question survey about school and education takes only a few minutes to complete at www.childfund.org.nz.

ChildFund New Zealand CEO Paul Brown says the results will equip parents, governments and agencies around the world with valuable insights from a child’s perspective.

“Children have far more knowledge and understanding of the world than they are often given credit for. Every year we are amazed at the level of insight children demonstrate in their answers, highlighting concerns and solutions that caretakers and decision makers need to be aware of.”

The organisation shares the results locally, with governments and in global forums such as the United Nations.

Last year 5,800 children from 44 countries gave their opinions on safety and protection for children, including 600 Kiwi kids who were particularly concerned with online safety. This year the survey will explore children’s views on school and education, including safety at school.

“ChildFund is a big believer in the power of education and every child’s right to access it. Previous surveys have revealed the importance children place on their schooling, but there is a long way to go to ensuring all children benefit from a quality education. We are eager to better understand their views and experiences on this critical topic.”

The Small Voices, Big Dreams survey closes on Friday 1 July. Results will be announced on Universal Children’s Day on 20 November 2016.

Schools can also request printed copies of the survey with a self-addressed, stamped envelope from Kiri Carter at kiri@childfund.org.nz or phone 0800 223 111.
