New Zealand’s mobile learning a cut above the rest
2 December 2016
New Zealand proved its
mobile learning is a cut above the rest, with HITO’s VUE
online learning system winning silver at the Learning
Technologies Awards on Wednesday night. Nearly 800 guests
gathered at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in
London to celebrate the awards. Entries came from across the
world in sectors as diverse as healthcare, retail,
communications, government, and education.
CloserStill Media have rewarded the best in learning technology through the Learning Technologies Awards since 2005. The Awards showcase recognisable, life-changing learning technology and e-learning tools from across the world. With the biggest event to date, 2016’s awards ceremony saw over 400 entrants, with 53 acknowledged with bronze, silver, or gold awards.
Up against big names like Jaguar, the British Council, and Historic Royal Palaces, HITO’s VUE online learning system took home the silver award in the ‘Best Use of Mobile Learning’ category.
VUE is a collaboration between the NZ Hair and Beauty Industry Training Organisation (HITO), Wavelength, and Touchtech. The mobile learning portal gives apprentice hairdressers access to online training, including videos, quizzes, and portfolios. The emphasis is on using smartphones and tablets to access the system, meaning trainees can learn wherever they are. Because every apprentice has access to the same resources, all trainees learn the same skills to the highest standard. Both apprentices and their trainers can access the VUE system.
One trainer commented:
“VUE is the most valuable way we have of ensuring consistent training for hairdressers across New Zealand. All trainers can train to the official standard, and all apprentices learn the skills they need in the correct way. VUE makes training more efficient”.
The Learning Technology Awards marks the second win for VUE, with the learning system coming runner-up at the NZATD Awards for Learning and Development Technology of the Year 2016. The New Zealand Association for Training and Development (NZATD) is the independent organisation for learning and development professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand.
