Life Education educated and empowered 66,252 students in Term 3

In Term 3 the Life Education Trust taught 66,252 students across the country – bringing the total number of children it’s seen this year to 197,814.

Life Education is the largest provider of health and well-being education for primary and intermediate school-aged children in New Zealand. They offer tailored lessons in five subject strands: Food and Nutrition, Human Biology, Substances, Relationships and Communities, and Identity and Resilience. The programme adopts a sequential year-on-year, age-specific approach and addresses a range of issues such as bullying, peer pressure and self-confidence.

Life Education Trust Chief Executive John O’Connell believes the high number demonstrates individual schools’ needs.

“We’re seeing quite an increase in schools seeking support for resilience strategies, reflecting that mental health and well-being is something schools are reporting as an increasing issue for their children.

In a single year we’ll be in nearly 70% of New Zealand’s primary and intermediate schools, sometimes for five or six weeks with the larger schools.

Improving children’s understanding of nutrition and healthy choices is also top of mind with schools,” he says.

The Trust has 45 mobile classrooms operating nationwide and each Educator is a specialist, registered teacher supporting schools to meet the health education needs of children in their area.

This year Life Education Trust is celebrating 30 years of existence in New Zealand. The charity does not rely on government funding to run their programme; their success lies in 32 local Trusts raising funds in each region.
