A Change At The Helm For The New Zealand Veterinary Association

It was firsts all round with the appointment of a new President of the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA). Stratford's Dr Jenny Weston was appointed at the Annual General Meeting held in Auckland today.

It is the first time in the Association's history that the mantle of power has passed from one woman to another. Alexandra vet Dr Susan Morris was the President for the last two years.

Another first is that at 31, Dr Jenny Weston is the youngest President to take over the reins of the organisation that represents over 1500 vets around New Zealand.

The other Board members for 2000/2001 are Ashburton's Lewis Griffiths, Susan Morris, Cantabrians Ross Blanks and Kevin Crews, Drury's John Ewen, Morrisonville's Chris Hutchings, Palmerston North's Norm Williamson and Ron Thornton from Wellington.

Chief Executive Officer Murray Gibb says the Board provides the Association with a highly skilled and professional team, representative of the diverse streams that the profession encompasses.

"The breadth and depth of activities that vets and support staff are involved in is very complex, as is the environment they operate in," he says.

"NZVA is fortunate to have a Board covering the whole spectrum of veterinary activity. This bodes well for the future of our profession." ends
