Directions Magazine Finds A New Way: A New Zealand institution just got a whole lot better

Directions, New Zealand’s largest circulation magazine, has been revamped.
The Automobile Association’s flagship magazine has a circulation of 560,000.

“We want to really sharpen up the way it reads and the way it looks. I think we’ve made a lot of progress with this issue, and we’ve got more innovation planned for next year,” says new editor John Cranna.

The current issue, released today, features eight of New Zealand’s best kept holiday destination secrets. These are Rodney Country, Raglan, Whakatane, Taranaki, Karamea, Oamaru, Catlins, and Riverton.

Well-known writers Paul Smith and Lloyd Jones prepared the profiles, which are supported by stunning photographs taken by John McDermott and Bruce Connew.

“This feature signals that Directions will be using top writers and photographers and that it will have a distinctly New Zealanders “out there doing it” flavour,” says Mr Cranna.

Other topics featured in this edition of Directions include the AA’s “top ten” second hand car list, a profile of the day in the life of an AA repairman, an update on Auckland’s congestion problems, and a report on the recently released 2010 Road Safety Strategy.

“Transport issues affect all of us, so Directions will continue to its tradition of looking out for the interests of motorists,” says Mr Cranna.

Mr Cranna is a published author and journalist. Prior to joining the Association, he was communication manager with Auckland legal firm Hesketh Henry.
