Guide Dog Appeal preliminary results

So far New Zealanders have donated over $311,000 to the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind’s 2001 Guide Dog Appeal.

“This is a outstanding response from the public and these aren’t the final figures,” says Jeanette Manson, RNZFB National Manager Funding Development.

“We still have a number of fundraising events planned before we release a final total at the end of June.”

Regional breakdowns so far:
$83,339 in Auckland and Northland
$15,219 in the Hawkes Bay
$41,573 in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty
$63,238 in Wellington, Tarankai and the Manawatu
$10,338 in Nelson and Malborough
$69,525 in Christchurch
$28,000 in Otago

The Foundation would like to thank everyone who was involved with the street appeal, especially volunteers and supporters from around the country who have made this year’s appeal a success.

“Thanks to the support of the media running up to the appeal our volunteer numbers increased considerably,” says Jeanette Manson.

“The media also helped considerably to raise awareness about our need for more guide dogs, especially since we didn’t use television advertising this year.”

The money raised goes to the Foundation’s Guide Dog Services and other valuable services for blind and sight-impaired New Zealanders. These services enable Foundation members to meet the challenges of their sight loss and maintain their independence.
