Vehicle Registrations Up Again In February
Figures released today by the Land Transport Safety Authority show a 23 percent increase in vehicle registrations last month compared to February 2001 - the eleventh straight month that registrations have been up on the previous year.
There were 20,020 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles last month, compared with 16,315 in February 2001.
Car registrations rose 23 percent, up from 12,807 in February 2001 to 15,802 last month. Of the first-time car registrations last month, 4,270 were new and 11,532 were used, compared with 4,125 new and 8,682 used in February 2001 - a 33 percent increase in the volume of used imports.
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Holden with 17.8 percent, ahead of Ford with 15.9 percent and Toyota with 14.0 percent.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden VX Commodore, Ford Mondeo and Ford Falcon.
Truck registrations were up 26 percent, from 1,545 in February 2001 to 1,944 this February. Motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) were up from 302 to 360, while trailers were up from 1,195 to 1,363. Tractor registrations rose from 112 to 171, while bus registrations were down from 76 to 75.
