Keep an eye out for guide dogs with buckets

Guide dog appeal 26 - 28 April 2002

Keep an eye out for guide dogs with collection buckets - the Guide Dog Appeal is on again!

The Royal NZ Foundation for the Blind's annual Guide Dog Appeal will run Friday 26 April to Sunday 28 April - raising money for Guide Dog Services and other essential services provided by the Foundation for the Blind.

"The theme of this year's campaign highlights the dependence the Foundation has on public donations," says Jeanette Manson, RNZFB National Manager Fundraising.

"We are trying to make people aware that without their donations the Foundation can't provide services like guide dogs - we simply don't have the money."

To ensure the Foundation meets the $725,000 target for the Guide Dog Appeal, it needs at least 5000 volunteers nationally to be out on the streets collecting over the three days the appeal is running.

Regional breakdown of volunteers needed:

Northland / Auckland 1,200
Waikato 350
Bay of Plenty 500
Hawke's Bay 300
Taranaki / Manawatu / Wellington 1,500
Nelson 250
Canterbury / Westcoast 850
Otago / Southland 500

If you can give as little as two hours to collect or as much as six weeks to help organise the collection in your area please contact 0800 DOG DAY (0800 364 329) today!

"And don't forget to give generously when you see a collector on the street!" says Ms Manson.
