April Vehicle Registrations Up And Down

April vehicle registration figures released today by the Land Transport Safety Authority show a 16.8 percent increase from last year - but an 11.9 percent drop from the previous month.
There were 20,085 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this April, compared with 17,197 in April 2001 and 22,797 in March this year.
First-time car registrations rose from 13,585 in April 2001 to 15,777 in April 2002 (17,933 in March 2002). New car registrations were up 29.0 percent, from 3,670 in April 2001 to 4,735 in April 2002 (5,432 in March 2002), while used import registrations rose 11.4 percent, from 9,915 in April 2001 to 11,042 in April 2002 (12,501 in March 2002).
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Holden with 18.7 percent, ahead of Toyota with 16.6 percent and Ford with 14.4 percent.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden VX Commodore, Toyota Corolla and Ford Falcon.
Truck registrations were up 41 percent, from 1,513 in April 2001 to 2,132 this April. Motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) were up from 250 to 292, while trailer registrations were down from 1,458 to 1,379. Tractor registrations rose from 132 to 153, while bus registrations were up from 61 to 69.
