New Second-In-Charge For The Salvation Army

Lieutenant Colonel Garth McKenzie returns home to take up his appointment as 2-I-C (Chief Secretary) for The Salvation Army in the New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga Territory from the 1st July. As 'Chief' he succeeds Colonel Robert Redhead ( a Canadian ) who has been appointed Chief Secretary of the Canada and Bermuda Territory.

Garth and his wife Lieut Colonel Mel McKenzie, (appointed to be Territorial Secretary for Women's ,Adult and Family ministries), return from appointments in the Australia Southern Territory. They have been Officers for over 26years. They will be based at The Army's Territorial Headquarters in Wellington.

The Mackenzie's are former Wellingtonians, and prior to Officership Garth worked for the former James Smith Department Store. He held management positions including that of Personnel Manager. His appointment in Melbourne, prior to his return to New Zealand, has been as Territorial Personnel Secretary.

In New Zealand their previous appointments have included leadership of several Corps, responsibility for all Youth Work within the Territory, and prior to their appointment to Australia five years ago, they were Divisional Commanders in the Auckland Division.

Garth and Mel will be installed into their appointments in a public ceremony at the Wellington Citadel on Sunday July 7th.
