New Zealand Medical Journal Goes Online
The New Zealand Medical Journal today became a fully online journal after 115 years of print publication. The eNZMJ was launched by New Zealand Medical Association Chairman Dr John Adams at a function in Wellington.
"This is an exciting day for the NZMA, and a significant one for New Zealand doctors. We are confident that the new-look NZMJ will continue to be regarded as essential reading for the medical profession in New Zealand," said Dr Adams.
The eNZMJ will continue to provide the medical profession in New Zealand with its own peer-reviewed scientific journal. For contributors, the move to an electronic system will streamline the process of publication. For readers, the archive and search facility will make it easier to find and access articles.
"The decision to go fully online was made to ensure the future viability and relevance of the Journal. While some people would have preferred to keep the paper version, we are confident that we will be providing a great product, as well as responsibly using our financial resources," Dr Adams said.
All readers will have access to abstracts and other items, including classified advertising. Full access to articles will be available to NZMA members and subscribers.
The current Editor, Professor Gary Nicholls from Christchurch Hospital and School of Medicine, steps down in mid-July, and he will be succeeded by Professor Frank Frizelle, also from Christchurch Hospital and School of Medicine.
The NZMJ is one of New Zealand's oldest publications. It is New Zealand's leading medical research publication and is held in high regard by the profession. It was first published in 1887.
