July vehicle registration figures released

July vehicle registration figures released today by the Land Transport Safety Authority show a 7.6 percent increase from July 2001.

There were 22,266 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this July, compared with 20,689 in July 2001 and 20,621 in June this year.

First-time car registrations rose from 16,569 in July 2001 to 17,524 this July (15,851 in June). New car registrations were up 12.3 percent, from 4,958 in July 2001 to 5,569 this July (5,754 in May), while used import registrations rose 2.7 percent, from 11,611 in July 2001 to 11,928 this July (10,097 in June).

The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Toyota with 19.3 percent, ahead of Ford with 16.2 percent and Holden with 15.5 percent. Toyota now holds the overall market share lead for new cars registered in the year to date.

The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden VX Commodore, Ford Falcon and Toyota Corolla.

Truck registrations were up percent, from 1,964 in July 2001 to 2,480 this July. Motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) were up from 215 to 277, while trailer registrations were down from 1,495 to 1444. Tractor registrations rose from 151 to 198, while bus registrations were up from 75 to 88.
