Work website an ideal resource for Parents.

Work website an ideal resource for Parents.

The launch today of the Department of Labour's new “Future of Work” website will give those full time parents interested in returning to work a valuable resource at the perfect time.

“The nature of work is changing” said Parents Centre Chief Executive, Sue Fitzmaurice. “There are more opportunities for flexible work arrangements than ever before and skilled parents who are thinking of returning to work could be using the current shortage of skilled workers to negotiate the work balance that is right for them. Options like part time, shorter days, longer leave, working from home, job share, short and long term contract arrangements are now commonplace. These arrangements enable parents to get the rewards that come from work without losing the rewards that come from parenting.”

“Family friendly practices also offer advantages for businesses. Smart businesses are realising that they can make bottom line gains by looking after their parenting employees. By reducing the stress that occurs when work and family issues collide they get workers who are more dedicated, productive and suffer lower rates of absenteeism.”

“Every step that makes our workplaces more family friendly is a social investment. Everything that we can do to enable people to be top notch parents as well as dedicated employees will pay dividends in helping develop children who are secure, motivated and have good role models”

“Parents Centre congratulates the Department of Labour in producing a website that will be an ongoing resource for everyone involved, or wanting to be involved, in work.”

The website can be found at http:// http://www.futureofwork.govt.nz. Parents Centre has been providing skills and support to hundreds of thousands of parents for over fifty years.
