New date for 2003 Guide Dog Appeal

Collectors for the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind’s (RNZFB) Guide Dog Appeal will be stepping out at the end of March this year, a month earlier than they have in previous years.

The appeal is to be held Friday 28 - Sunday 30 March and will involve volunteers getting out and about on streets around the country with their collection buckets to help raise a total of $795, 000 for guide dogs and other essential RNZFB services.

To make 2003’s Guide Dog Appeal a success, the RNZFB needs at least 5000 volunteers to help with the street appeal.

“This year’s Guide Dog Appeal is gearing up to be a really fun event,” says Jeanette Manson, RNZFB Divisional Manager, Fundraising.

“And we appreciate all of the help we can get, the more people to get behind this great cause, the better!”

Regional breakdown of volunteers needed: Northland/Auckland 1,500 Waikato 400 Bay of Plenty 440 Hawke’s Bay 300 Taranaki/Manawatu/Wellington 1,000 Nelson 260 Canterbury/Westcoast 850 Otago/Southland 500

Not only has the date of the appeal significantly changed this year, 2003 also sees the RNZFB Guide Dog Services celebrating its 30th year in operation.

Established in 1973, RNZFB Guide Dog Services is responsible for breeding, raising and training the guide dogs that assist blind and severely sight-impaired New Zealanders to maintain their independence.
