Risk Factors For Type 2 Diabetes Being Promoted
Diabetes New Zealand recommends that people at risk of Type 2 diabetes ask for a blood test next time they visit their doctor.
“There are 116,000 people known to have diabetes, 105,000 of whom have Type 2 diabetes. For every person who has Type 2 diabetes, there is someone who remains undiagnosed. These people are at risk of long-term damage from the complications of diabetes such as heart disease, blindness and kidney damage and lower-limb amputation,” says Mr Russell Finnerty, President of Diabetes New Zealand.
“People should call 0800 DIABETES or go to our website (www.diabetes.org.nz) for the list of risk factors to find out if they should be visiting their doctor,” says Mr Finnerty.
To promote the risk factors, advertising supported by the Television New Zealand Community Support Foundation will promote the 0800 number during the month of November.
The campaign leads into Diabetes Awareness Week,
which runs from Tuesday 18 November to Monday 24
November.
