CDHB Announces New SI Youth Drug & Alcohol Service
The Christchurch based Odyssey House Trust has been selected to provide the new South Island Alcohol & Other Drug Treatment Service for youth. In the first instance, the development of this service will result in a day programme and the establishment of residential supports. There will be a formal evaluation of the service development. The cooperation and collaboration of agencies such as Child Youth & Family, Health, Education, Youth Justice and others who are involved with young people who will require this service is also very important.
Making the announcement, the CDHB’s General Manager of Planning & Funding Dr Karleen Edwards said the selection of the provider was a positive move forward.
‘This important development means that young people in the Southern region will have the alcohol and drug treatment services they require,’ she said.
‘Funding for this new regional service was announced earlier this year and the service specification was developed by the Ministry of Health in consultation with South Island DHBs and other agencies,’ she said.
Dr Edwards said a rigorous RFP process had been undertaken through which the selection panel ultimately identified Odyssey House Trust as the successful provider.
‘The panel was unanimous in its decision to select Odyssey House Trust as the provider.’
Dr Edwards said the CDHB would now be working with Odyssey House in developing the regional and intersectoral relationship required to ensure the service will be effective.
