More Cardiac Outpatients

An increase in the number of cardiac outpatients at Christchurch hospital has meant staff have gone looking for bigger premises.

Cardiac rehabilitation specialist Ruth Davidson said from next week the clinic which has been based at the city’s YMCA premises for several years will move to the Horticultural Centre in Riccarton Avenue.

‘Increased demand has prompted this move and we are really pleased so many people want to learn more about their heart conditions.’

Ms Davidson said the clinic provided for people with coronary heart disease, angina, and people who were recovering from heart surgery or had had a heart attack.

‘We are finding that people want to know more. They don’t want a repeat of what they have gone through.’

Ms Davidson said providing information and education about the heart was a vital part of the rehabilitation process. It was important to get the patient back in control of their life.
