CDHB & Heart Foundation To Jointly Promote Health

CDHB & Heart Foundation To Jointly Promote Health

Through a new Memorandum of Understanding, the Canterbury District Health Board and the National Heart Foundation of New Zealand have agreed to work together to further promote initiatives that will improve health outcomes for people in Canterbury.

One of the DHB’s core priorities is prevention and management of heart disease. The Chief Executive of the CDHB, Jean O’Callaghan said by working closer together, the two organisations would ensure better quality care and improved outcomes. This would extend from the new pre-school programme through to cardiac rehabilitation.

‘We want to see greater emphasis on health education, information and promotion of health programmes in our region.’

The Medical Director of the Heart Foundation, Professor Norman Sharpe said he was enthusiastic about the opportunities greater collaboration between the two organisations would bring.

‘This agreement between the Heart Foundation and the CDHB is a ‘first’ for us and we look forward to being able to develop similar arrangements with other DHBs,’ he said.

‘Our primary objective is promoting healthy living to ensure a healthy heart, and we want to extend our programmes as much as possible. The new programme for Under 5 Year Olds in Christchurch is one such example.’
