Reconfiguration of wards at Hawke’s Bay Hospital

MEDIA RELEASE
8 April 2004

Reconfiguration of wards at Hawke’s Bay Hospital is underway

People visiting patients at Hawke’s Bay Hospital over the next week are being advised to contact reception on arrival to confirm where patients are located.

A reconfiguration of wards in the AB block, the multi level tower block on the Hastings campus, is being undertaken as one of a number of initiatives to ease the “winter peak” bed pressure and support maximum utilisation of available beds.

Alistair Ayto, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s group manager of medical and surgical services says “We are undertaking these moves over a number of days and at this time in order to minimise disruption to patient care and to ensure the new wards are settled in advance of the usual high demand for beds over winter.”

It is hoped that all the moves will be completed by Friday 16th April. People who intend visiting patients in Hawke’s Bay Hospital should check at either main reception or at the reception areas on the floors before entering the ward as patients may have been shifted.

“We will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum and ask for cooperation from people when visiting the hospital over the coming week.” says Mr Ayto.
