Consultation On Services For Older People In Otago

Media Statement

Monday 27th April 2004

OTAGO DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD BEGINS CONSULTATION ON SERVICES FOR OLDER PEOPLE IN OTAGO

The Otago DHB has begun consulting with Otago communities on services for older people funded by the Otago DHB. The document, entitled; Elder Services Otago, A Proposal for a Continuum of Care for Older People in Otago, outlines 6 proposed workstreams to enable that continuum of care to be developed. The proposed continuum of care is intended to ensure that older people in Otago are able to access services in the right place, at the right time and from the right service. Issues identified in the document include, a greater emphasis on services that are person-centred, better communication between services, a stronger rehabilitation focus for aged care services, and the strengthening of community and home based services for older people.

The document has been circulated to over 450 agencies with an interest in aged care issues around Otago.
