Breast Cancer Action Trust Welcomes Remit
"Debbie Short of the Breast Cancer Action Trust welcomes the unanimous passing of a policy remit at the recent National Party Conference "That the National Party support free mammographic screening from 40yrs". Debbie Short is now calling on all other political parties to pass similar remits. Debbie and Tim Short presented to Parliament the 124,000 signature Petition calling for the Government to expand Breast Screening 40 - 70 years (previously 50 - 64 years) which the Government has since announced an expansion 45 - 69 years.
The Health Select Committee is currently considering Breast Screening from 40 years having received a number of submissions, and is yet to report back to Parliament. Debbie Short, who was diagnosed with 8 tumours at 44 years, recommends annual screening from 40 years and says that earlier detection is just so important because in younger women the cancer is more aggressive and progresses more rapidly."
