Nurse Maude Strike Set For 30th August
New Zealand Nurses’ Organisation members employed by Christchurch’s Nurse Maude Association will walk off the job at 8am, Monday 30th August for four hours.
NZNO advocate Joy Coughlan said the union served a strike notice today for the 200 NZNO members employed in Canterbury’s Nurse Maude’s hospice and dementia units and as district nurses.
Joy Coughlan said if mediation set down for 19th August did not result in an acceptable offer, the strike would go ahead.
“Although our members don’t want to take strike action, it seems to be the only way they can achieve the same conditions and rates of pay as their counterparts doing the same job in the Christchurch area,” said Joy Coughlan.
“Not only is the current offer by Nurse Maude $3,500 lower than nurses are paid at the Canterbury DHB, the current Nurse Maude offer falls way behind industry standards in sick leave, weekend rates and reimbursement for a practising certificate required by the employer.”
