Daffodil Day 2004 Appeal hits the $4 Million

Daffodil Day 2004 Appeal hits the $4 Million

The Cancer Society is again overwhelmed by the generosity of New Zealanders as Daffodil Day donations look to at least equal the record $4 million total of 2003.

Daffodil Day Chairman, Neil Chave said today "that this sum is remarkable considering the variable weather throughout the country on Daffodil Day. It is indeed testimony to the goodwill of the New Zealand public towards the work of the Cancer Society".

Mr. Chave said that a certain portion of the $4 million will go towards research into the causes and treatment of Cancer. Some funds will also provide health promotion campaigns educating New Zealanders about Cancer prevention and early detection as well as patient support programmes.

Mr. Chave said that it was important to stress that funds raised in a particular region would be spent in that region.

"People can be assured that their own communities will benefit directly from the money they have donated".

"We again sincerely thank all those who supported Daffodil Day, including the thousands of volunteers who braved the elements to collect on the day.

“For the 14th successive year we are most indebted to the support of our principal sponsor the National Bank".
