Watch Out!Lions World Sight Day Is On 13 October 2004

On Wednesday 13 October, Lions Clubs New Zealand with the support of OPSM and Visique Optometrists will be marking Lions World Sight Day.

Internationally, Lions work goes a long way to help sufferers of sight-related issues – in New Zealand glasses collected during Lions World Sight Day help meet the desperate needs of kiwis and our neighbours in the Pacific. Last year New Zealanders generously donated over 7,500 eyeglasses and sun glasses and we want to make this year even better.

We will be asking New Zealanders to dig out their old and unused glasses in any condition and drop them off at their nearest OPSM store or Visique Optometrist during the week of Monday 11 October to Sunday 16 October.

The glasses will then be collected, graded and cleaned at one of two Lions Clubs eyeglass recycling centres and distributed to areas in New Zealand by Lions and to the South Pacific by Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas (VOSO), a New Zealand wide charity that provides eye examinations and surgery to South Pacific nations.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to publicise what people can do and where they can go. Your support is paramount to the success of this collection.

Please promote this event in your paper/ programme/ on your station, including your community notice board. Collections will be happening during the week of Monday 11 October to Sunday 16 October at Visique Optometrists, OPSM, Libraries and Councils around the country.
