Blessing at Hawke’s Bay Hospital chapel

MEDIA RELEASE

15 November 2004

Special service of dedication and blessing at Hawke’s Bay Hospital chapel

Two tukutuku panels designed and made by Ka Awatea Mahi Toi Trust from Porangahau are to be dedicated and blessed at a special service at the Soldiers Memorial Chapel, Monday 15th November at 2pm. The designs depicted in the panels reflect the well-known ‘steps to heaven’ and the Treaty of Waitangi, and while one is based on a traditional concept the other is more contemporary and includes references to the unknown soldier.

Officiating at the service are Heather Flavell, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board coordinating chaplain, the Anglican Bishop of Tairawhiti Right Reverend W. Brown Turei and the Reverend Bill Tuhiwai.

The panels were commissioned in September using chapel funds, being donations from patients, parishioners and benefactors provided to fund purchases which enhance the holistic value and purpose of Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s Soldiers Memorial Chapel.
