First Operations At The New Day Surgery Unit Go Well


The new Day Surgery Unit which is based on the first floor at the new Christchurch Women’s Hospital opened for official business 14 hours earlier than expected with an emergency eye operation at 6pm last night (Tuesday).

The operation which was performed by eye surgeon Mr Jim Borthwick went extremely well.

Two scheduled elective eye operations were carried out this morning and there will be further eye operations tomorrow and Friday.

The commissioning of the new theatres has been very successful. Pam Aldersley Nurse Manager of the Day surgery Unit said staff are very excited with their new facilites.

The first elective paediatric surgery in the new Day Surgery Unit will be on Friday this week and the first operation will be from the ear, nose and throat list.
